Statistical Data

The IMF publishes a range of time series data on IMF lending, exchange rates, and other economic and financial indicators. Manuals, guides, and other material on statistical practices at the IMF, in member countries, and of the statistical community at large are also available.

IMF Premier Statistical Resources include International Financial Statistics, Balance of Payments Statistics, Direction of Trade Statistics, and Government Finance Statistics. The IMF's statistical data are available in various formats including print, CD-ROMs, and as Online databases. Some data are also published in Yearbook format.

International Financial Statistics (IFS): This statistical publication is the standard source of international statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. For most countries, IFS Online reports balance of payments, international liquidity, money and banking, current data on exchange rates, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government accounts, national accounts, and population.

Balance of Payments Statistics (BOP): The IMF's Balance of Payments Statistics contains over 100,000 quarterly and annual time-series data. The data include aggregate as well as detailed information in the form of analytical and standard component presentations for countries. BOP delivers international economic transactions data on; total goods, services, factor income, and current transfers each economy receives from or provides to the rest of the World; capital transfers and changes in each economy's external financial claims and liabilities; tables featuring area and world totals of balance of payments components and aggregates.

Direction of Trade Statistics (DOT): Common wisdom holds that as countries become more integrated, they are increasingly influenced by each others? economic development. Some economies are even considered engines of global or regional growth. This product provides statistics on the value of merchandise exports and imports between each country and all its trading partners.

Government Finance Statistics (GFS): The product provides data on budgetary operations, extra-budgetary operations, social security, and consolidated financial operations of central governments. A section of the Government Finance Statistics Yearbook is devoted to a cross-country comparison of data. The Government Finance Statistics Database on CD-ROM contains this statistical data on government financial operations for 145 IMF member countries. The CD-ROM is issued quarterly and updated as new data are received and time series become available.
